First steps if you lose your cat in Dundrum

  1. 1

Search the immediate area very thoroughly first — a frightened cat usually hides silently within a few houses, not far away.

    Tip from locals

Marlay Park, 1.5 km away, is the nearest large green space, so search its hedges and woodland edges first.

  2. 2

Go out again after dark with a torch: cats move once it is quiet, and their eyes reflect the light under cars, sheds and hedges.

    Tip from locals

After dark, check the waterside cover along the Slang, 600 metres away, and the Wyckham Stream, 900 metres off, once the area has gone quiet.

  3. 3

Ask neighbours to open garages, sheds and cellars — cats slip inside unnoticed and get shut in.

    Tip from locals

The Luas Green Line, 800 metres away, and the M50, 2.4 km off, usually keep a scared cat on one side, so ask neighbours on your side first.

  4. 4

Ask neighbours to check enclosed spaces again and share a recent photo with the last-seen place and time.

    Tip from locals

Share the photo in Ballinteer, 1.9 km to the south, and Milltown, 2.6 km to the north, plus Terenure, 2.8 km to the north-west.

  5. 5

Report her to the shelter, nearby vets and the microchip registry, then start a targeted alert that reaches the whole neighbourhood at once.

    Tip from locals

11 vet practices are within 5 km, so start with the nearest and ask them to check for a microchip.
