Under Boston's rules you must report a found dog to Animal Care and Control, at 617-635-1913 or 617-635-1800, and they can collect it and take it to the city kennel. The owner is then given seven days to claim the dog. Reporting promptly with an accurate description matters, because otherwise the owner may never learn where to look.
