BCP Council does not allow dogs on its Blue Flag or Seaside Award beaches from 1 May to 30 September. From 1 October to 30 April dogs are allowed on all beaches but must be on a lead on promenades, piers, zig zags and footpaths. Some stretches of beach stay open to dogs all year.

BCP Council asks you to report a lost dog online with its breed, description, where and when it was lost, and its collar, tag and microchip details. Your dog then goes on a list the council checks every time it gets information or collects a stray. If the council has kept your dog, you pay when you collect it: the fee can include collection, vaccination by a vet and a daily kennel charge, and the dog is not released until the fees are paid.
