Islington's Animal Welfare Officer takes reasonable steps to find the owner. If the owner can't be identified, the dog is kept for seven days and then transferred to a rehoming centre. Kennel fees may be charged, and the dog is not returned until they are paid. The officer can be reached on 020 7527 3017, Monday to Sunday, 8am to 4pm.

Islington's Animal Welfare Officer takes stray dog reports Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays, from 8am to 4pm, with the last call-out at 3pm. The officer only attends if the dog has been contained, for example in a place it cannot escape from or held on a lead. Outside these times, the council says you can take the dog to a vet or rehoming centre, which can check the microchip.
